Chinchilla Melon Festival 
The Internationally acclaimed Melon Festival kicked off in 1994 and now held every 2 years (next in 2017) was originally designed to bolster the spirits of a drought stricken community (25% of Australia's melon crop is grown in Chinchilla).

Chinchilla Historical Museum  Provides an old time experience for the whole family from impressive slab cottage, the old jail and dance hall to the 1900 steam sawmill and impressive display of vintage machinery, much of it still working.

Chinchilla Petrified Wood In the Chinchilla area, petrified wood occurs in abundance. It is a popular ornamental material used mainly for decorative pieces (bookends, clock faces, ashtrays etc) and for lapidary purposes as polished specimens, slabs, cabochons, tumbled stones and spheres. This collection is regarded as one of the largest collection of its kind to be found anywhere.
